Issues of national and statewide interest and concern to women business owners are the business of the Public Policy Council, and the focus of our organization wide advocacy efforts. NAWBO’s public policy platform issues are:
Health Care Insurance
- Position: NAWBO supports the creation of Association Health Plans (AHPs) to improve access and choice for women business owners with respect to medical care for their employees.
Procurement
- Position: NAWBO opposes contract bundling.
- Position: NAWBO supports the achievement of the 5% Women Business Enterprise (WBE) federal procurement goal.
Fiscal
- Position: NAWBO supports federal legislation that overcomes the current barriers related to access of capital by women business owners (WBOs).
- Position: NAWBO supports fair and equitable tax treatment for small business.
- Position: NAWBO supports the permanent repeal of the estate tax.
Technology
- Position: NAWBO supports the Small Business Innovation
- Research (SBIR) program and is interested in these funds being available to its members.
- Position: NAWBO supports an open Internet-based marketplace.
Social Security
- Position: NAWBO supports the principles of the Alliance for Worker Retirement Security (AWRS). NAWBO will continue to evaluate future legislation against the AWRS principles in order to be a key player in winning the best possible benefits for our members.
Education and the Workforce
- Position: NAWBO supports the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, which has a mandate to retrain America’s workforce.
NAWBO actively advocates with legislators and the Administration for its positions relative to health care insurance, procurement, and fiscal issues. We and our coalition partners monitor concerns relative to technology, social security, and education & the workforce.
