Ninety years ago, on August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution was certified which allowed women the right of suffrage. The 19th Amendment states, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of SEX. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”
Women such as Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton held the light up high for women today to light their path. The right to vote vested on women on the ratification of the Constitution opened the doors of opportunities and empowerment to women.
