Immigration Issues

On August 13, 2010, President Obama signed the $600 M Border security bill that will be used to hire 1,000 border security agents, purchase security machines and equipment, a third portion will benefit DOJ agencies like the FBI, the DEA and the ATF to address deal with drug dealers and human traffickers, and a $26 billion will be used to as aid to keep teachers and other public workers from being laid off. As money begets money, this bill will get its funding  from the newly signed amendment to increase immigration anti-fraud fees to an additional $2,000 for every legal worker  employers bring into the US to fill highly in demand skills and shortage , hard to fill positions using the legal immigration employment-based visas   like the H1B non-immigrant working visa category and L-1 company transferee visa programs.

Houston immigration court system was in a frenzy of dismissing removal proceedings cases of non-criminal immigration violators. Many Houston immigration lawyers expecting deportations judgments last week had been caught by surprise with receiving dismissal of their cases especially for their non criminal clients. More dismissals are expected as supported by the DHS Memo issued on August 20, 2010, which stated, “ This policy will allow ICE and EOIR to address a major inefficiency in present practice and thereby avoid unnecessary delay and expenditure of resources.” (http://www.ilw.com/immigrationdaily/news/2010,0825-morton.pdf.
