2009 marks the 16th Annual Woman Business Owner of the Year Gala sponsored by the Greater Houston Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO Houston). We have begun accepting applications for this year’s prestigious Woman Business Owner of the Year (WBOY) award. The deadline for accepting nominations is August 7, 2009. WBOY is not about the size of the business, but passion of the woman running the business!
Nominees do not have to be NAWBO Houston members and must demonstrate: excellence as a business owner, initiative and creativity in overcoming obstacles in her business, civic and community involvement; professional accomplishments and contributions. We take pride in the fact that this is the only award given to women business owners by women business owners!
A panel of three judges from the Houston Community will narrow the field to a select group of finalists. These extraordinary women will be honored at NAWBO Houston’s WBOY luncheon (time and date to be announced). The winner will be selected by the NAWBO Houston Board of Directors and will receive her award NAWBO Houston’s WBOY Gala on October 22, 2009.
Why WBOY?
As the only national women’s organization that is not industry- specific, we wanted to get the word out about NAWBO. We were also seeking to honor women business owners that were successful and committed to the Houston community. We wanted an opportunity to interact with women of diverse backgrounds and achievements to inspire those who seek to fill their shoes in the future.
Who Benefits?
Proceeds from the raffle and auction are used to benefit a worthy charity that is meaningful to our membership and related to women business ownership. Our beneficiary for 2009 is The Rose. The Rose is Houston’s leading 501(c)3 non-profit breast cancer organization providing mammography screening, diagnosis, early access to treatment and support to all women, regardless of their ability to pay.
